The 100 Most Popular Dog Names We Can’t Get Enough Of

Who else has spent hours agonizing over the perfect name for their new dog?

When I went to the shelter to adopt my first dog (as in the first dog that would be 100% mine), I fell in love with a cutie with golden eyes. The shelter named him Pepper, but besides a smattering of grey fur on his neck, it was obvious that name just wouldn’t do. First off, my new dog was a boy. I wasn’t about to name him after Iron Man’s better half, Pepper Potts—even though she’s a total boss. Picking the perfect name for my new pup was an important task.
The process involved a lot of lists and field research. Did I go up to random people with dogs just to ask them their dogs’ name? Yes, yes I did. After painstaking deliberation, I eventually settled on the name Copper. No, not Cooper like certain members of my family and that one receptionist at the vet insist on, but Copper. You know, as in the hound dog from the Disney masterpiece, “The Fox and the Hound.”

The moral of my dog-naming story is that there’s no shame in wanting to pick the perfect name for your new dog or cat. My advice is to spend some time getting to know the new pup before settling on the right name. You should also check out this list of the most popular dog names of 2019.
